Founded in 1969, the orchestra gave its first concert as a full symphony orchestra in 1978 and thereafter a symphonic concert has featured in nearly all the orchestra’s yearly programmes.
Richard Howarth was born in Doncaster. He studied violin with Peter Bear – the founder of Boyce Orchestra and was leader of the Beechfield Youth orchestra under Peter’s Direction.
Richard has gone on to have a varied and illustrious career. He has conducted Manchester Camerata, the Ulster Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the London, Scottish and Manchester Concert Orchestras and, from the violin, has directed Manchester Camerata and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He conducts/directs his own orchestra, Manchester Sinfonia and in 2011 Richard travelled to Jordan to work with the Amman Symphony Orchestra.
